The one thing that I really missed about the Cape Town culinary scene was good Mexican food. There was no Panchos or Fat Cactus equivalent in Joburg until Perron opened its doors (there was Cantina Tequila in Fourways but that really doesn't count, right?). Since it has opened, it has been packed pretty much every weekend. One does not simply arrive at Perron on a Friday night and get a table. It's also crowded and noisy and hot and you know what? Everyone loves it. Because the food is great. The chilli is especially delish. I'm not sure what kind of black magic they are performing in the kitchen but food comes out hot and fast every time. Like, really fast.
The staff is also basically just the best. Friendly, helpful and quick on their feet.
Prices are very reasonable so all in all, it's an excellent venue for dinner with friends, ladies' night, guys' night, any kind of partay really. I would even stretch it to dinner with colleagues or teams. Probably not clients though. Tequila shots with clients are always a no-no.
Rating: Everyday, all day: yum
