What to expect:
Basically
one can rock up at Licorish at any time of the day and there will be a little
piece of fusion heaven waiting to treat your palate. That means if you don’t
want to get up at 07:30 on a Saturday morning to queue for Tasha’s in Bryanston,
you can walk into Licorish at a time of your choosing (hopefully after 10:00. Honestly,
who eats breakfast before 10:00 on Saturday?!) and enjoy your perfectly poached
eggs at you own leisure.
I've
never been a fan of Fusion style dishes, since this usually means a messy and
confused combination of random ingredients with mediocre taste. But even I must
admit that Licorish really does it well. Somehow the chefs there just get that Oriental
twist spot on in everything they do!
Be
it the Crispy Fried Chicken wrap with curry coriander mayo and tomato chutney
or the Seared Tuna with chive and tomato ponzu with wasabi croquettes, every
bite is packed with flavour and creativity.
I
suppose the only downside to Licorish is its location, it’s in a mall.
Definitely not hipster, though if you do enjoy people watching it could be an
added perk?
Good
place to enjoy a meal with friends and family, probably not a great place to
entertain clients, too open, too “in-a-mall”.
Rating: Yummmm, but in a mall.
